Course content includes relevant provincial, state and federal safety regulations. The first component of training comprises complete in-class instruction and exam. Following that is a customized hands-on session together with practical instruction and evaluation.
The content of the course applies to all categories and types of overhead lifting crane equipment. The instruction will particularly focus on all aspects of crane operation which could be done at the workplace of the trainee. Upon completing the course, trainees will know how to operate particular overhead lifting equipment, related components and attachments efficiently and safely.
The operator course's goal is to first identify and potentially dangerous operator habits which can develop when a person operates an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment could be prevented with right practices. Training lessens the possibility of a workplace incident or injury happening.
The duration of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants are graded on their knowledge of training material through an assessment of their practical knowledge and written tests. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.
The in-class session, the trainee will know regarding guidelines and legislation, causes of damages and occurrences, internal responsibility, danger awareness, design principles and basic equipment, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, pre-shift equipment inspections, safe hoisting/operating methods, equipment applications/rigging, types of hardware, operator/pedestrian safety, hitches and angles, flipping/turning loads safely, hand signals for slingers and operators.
The customized practical training and evaluation session should be pre-scheduled. It would be held at the trainees' facility following completion of the in-class session. The length of this practical training part is one to two hours. Two operators at a time would be trained by the instructor on skills like planning the lift, correct rigging practices and safe operation.
After finishing both the in-class instruction and the practical training and evaluation, the trainee would be tested via an exam. Every participant would be needed to sign the safety rules. Individual wallet certificates would be given to successful trainees. A framed wall certificate will be provided to the company.
